WWE DIGITALS

Before The New Day’s celebration as the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions could begin, they were brutally attacked from behind by The Usos. The assault happened before the new champions could even finish their signature arrival announcement from backstage.

Jimmy & Jey absolutely decimated Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston in a brawl that spilled onto the stage. A staggered Big E made his way through the curtains to try to fight back against the brothers, but the wear and tear was just too much, and the former titleholders left all three New Day members in a crumbled heap.

PHILADELPHIA — Break out those Booty-O’s, light up the unicorn horns and swivel your hips accordingly: The New Day are Tag Team Champions for the third time.
As has become their custom, The New Day made history in their SmackDown Tag Team Title win over The Usos at WWE Battleground, as they’re the first-ever team to hold the tag titles of both brands. The feat is even more amazing given that it didn’t look like it would happen, as ya boys opted for an unusual combination — Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods — that didn’t pay early dividends.

Much to New Day’s chagrin, Woods was isolated from Kofi and subjected to an interminable, two-on-one mugging straight out of The Uso Penitentiary. The Boom Squad General eventually managed to tag his way into the match and was all but unstoppable — until the brothers snatched him out of the sky mid-Trust Fall and powerbombed him onto the arena floor.
With Kofi out of commission and Woods on wobbly legs, The Usos punished their foe once again with a two-on-one attack. Woods was first subjected to a double-team Samoan Drop. Then, when he tried to rally, he was superkicked straight out of the sky by Jimmy Uso and wrapped up with a Tequila Sunrise. Woods refused to stay down, but The Usos proved equally as difficult to put away. When Kofi finally stirred to life, The Usos nearly put him away with a splash that notched a two-and-nine-tenths count.

After trading vicious verbal barbs for weeks, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos put the titles on the line against The New Day.
Looking to finally end things, The Usos placed Kofi in the middle of the squared circle and set up for splashes on either corner of the ring. Woods saved the day, though, shoving Jey Uso to the outside and giving Kofi enough of a reprieve to avoid Jimmy’s splash in the confusion. The New Day pounced quickly with a one-two punch of Trouble in Paradise and a tightrope elbow drop from Woods that literally took him across the ring and the finish line for the 1-2-3.
In other words? Don’t you dare be sour, clap for your three-time champs and feel the power! Say hello to your W. W. E. Smack. Down. Tag. Team. Champions.

Following their salacious Rap Battle from one week ago, The New Day and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos got back to settling their issues with actions rather than words, as Xavier Woods took on Jey Uso.

With last week’s verbal barbs clearly still lingering, Woods and Jey duked it out as their teammates watched on from ringside, at least until their eagerness to get involved in the match got them ejected by the official.

With the playing field leveled, the two Superstars battled it out in a true one-on-one environment, and Woods bested Jey after connecting with an amazing soaring elbow while Jey was pinned between the ropes.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos and The New Day arrived to Team Blue equipped with more bars than the Vegas strip. With Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist Wale hosting, each Superstar took the mic and flowed, with humor certainly being The New Day’s zone and personal attacks being where The Usos operated most comfortably.

After the war of words began to get physically contentious, Wale called off the rest of the battle and simply declared that New Day were victorious. The New Day celebrated with Wale while the seething Usos took off with their crew.

The reunited Hype Bros entered San Diego just one win away from their long-awaited SmackDown Tag Team Championship bout, though they would have to defeat current titleholders, The Usos, to earn the opportunity to challenge for the gold.

Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley did not shy away from the moment, bringing ample hype-ness to Jimmy & Jey and developing a strong rhythm, but The Usos prevailed with a big splash to deny The Hype Bros a title match.

After the contest, The New Day hit the scene and got into another verbal sparring match with Jimmy & Jey. This resulted in words (and raps) being exchanged and a bombshell being dropped that The New Day would be getting another opportunity to challenge for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WWE Battleground on Sunday, July 23.

WWE DIGITALS

Following their thrilling, albeit controversial, SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match this past Sunday, The Usos and The New Day squared off again, this time in singles action as Big E faced off against Jimmy Uso.

At the end of a hard-hitting affair, Jimmy attempted to make his exit mid-match, much like he and his brother did during the title bout on Sunday. The Usos’ departure was thwarted when Kofi Kingston leaped off the steps to wipe out Jey Uso, and Xavier Woods blocked Jimmy’s path. Upon begrudgingly re-entering the ring, Jimmy was plastered to the mat by Big E, who delivered an earth-shaking Big Ending for the win.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Nah, that’d be booty.

The New Day def. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos via Count-out

ST. LOUIS — The Usos retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WWE Money in the Bank, but something fishy went down inside “The Uso Penitentiary” to ensure the twins kept their hardware.

In hindsight, perhaps The Usos were underestimating The New Day, or perhaps they were looking at them more as the previous iterations they had tussled with in the past. The brothers promptly singled out Kofi Kingston as the weak link of the challengers, subjecting him to a two-on-one attack that left The Dreadlocked Dynamo grasping for salvation and later locking his surgically-repaired knee in the Tequila Sunrise.
And yet, New Day persisted. The Usos hung tough, of course, at one point breaking up a pinfall a millisecond from the count of three following a Big Ending. Possibly sensing that ya boys were hotter on their heels than they would have preferred, Jimmy & Jey decided to straight-up leave, ditching New Day in the ring and taking a count-out loss, thereby assuring the SmackDown Tag Team Titles remained in their hands.
